St Luke’s CARES Community Cinema

Did you know that St Luke’s CARES Charity shop on Dewsbury Road used to be a cinema?

The Pavilion Picture Palace was one of the many urban cinemas in Leeds that presented films to the public from 1911 to 1956. The warehouse at St Luke’s CARES houses the charity’s fantastic reuse furniture was once a cinema theatre, and the original coving from around the screen can be seen as well as some of the original decoration.

Thanks to funding obtained from a Leeds Community Foundation and Leeds Civic Trust Community Heritage Fund the charity has been able to bring film back to life in the community for people to experience once more!

We want your involvement, can you help us choose the very first film to be shown on Tuesday 10 May 2022 at 4pm?

The film needs to be family friendly, so only these suggestions will be considered. To make your suggestion you can either visit the shop and post your film title into our suggestion box, at 246-252 Dewsbury Road; or message us on Facebook St Luke’s CARES or send us a message via Instagram  stlukescares_shopbeeston

The film with the most suggestions will get picked. The deadline for submitting your film title is Tuesday 3 May.

We can’t wait to hear your suggestions, check our socials to hear what our first film at our new community cinema will be. If you would like to be a volunteer at the cinema or join our steering group please email tyvin@stlukescares.org.uk
