The South Leeds Life Group met this afternoon to discuss how the blog is developing.
The biggest news was the report back from the Blog North Awards which were handed out in Manchester on Wednesday night. South Leeds Life was shortlisted in the City or Neighbourhood category, but unfortunately lost out to Seven Streets from Liverpool. However we were proud to have been shortlisted from amongst 450 nominated blogs and we thank you if voted for us in the public vote.
We also reviewed the results of our Reader Survey. Thank you if you took part. Articles on community groups, the environment and crime and policing were most popular, but people also asked for more local history articles and more comment pieces. We had some lovely comments about the blog, for example:
“I really enjoy it! It keeps me feeling a part of my neighbourhood and community and also informs my work”
The winners of the prize draw were Graham Armitage and “morgankingfisher” who won £25 vouchers to spend at SLATE secondhand furniture shop.
We continue to build our readership with a steady increase in visitors to the site. We now want to increase the numbers of writers and will be training new writers on the Community Reporters Course starting on 30th October. A further course will be run in the new year thanks to funding from the Middleton Park ward Community First funding.
We will shortly be moving the hosting of the site – as a reader you shouldn’t notice any difference. But you can expect to see some changes over the coming weeks with a new look and new features including a What’s On page.
We will be meeting again on Monday 19th November at St Luke’s Church in Beeston at 2:00pm, new members are always welcome.
