Shows at Slung Low this September

Slung Low, Holbeck’s own theatre, are hosting four events this month:

The Lodger is a new work about home and belonging. A restless deer leaves home, running into the unknown. This thought provoking, sometimes tragic, sometimes hilarious tale follows the deer’s journey as it encounters a menagerie of characters, all yearning for a sense of belonging. Through live original music, captivating storytelling, and side-splitting comedy, The Lodger explores themes of self-discovery, acceptance, and the enduring power of home.

Prepare to be moved, probed, and inspired by this unforgettable theatrical experience. As you are invited to look at your own mask and ask ‘Does it still fit?’ Friday 6 September at 7:30pm. (16+) Contains adult themes.

Saturday 14 September is the date for A Summer Ceilidh, a wonderful end of summer evening of music, food, dance and laughter. Join in and learn ceilidh [kay-lee] dances accompanied by Bandiera Rossa ceilidh band who will be playing and calling the dances, as well as food and a bar to make sure that you can keep refreshed and able to keep on going!

This event is an outdoor event at Slung Low at Temple, on the corner of Bath Road and Water Lane, 6:30pm.

Occupational Hazard fuses comedy, clowning and choreography as it follows the day in the life of two air hostesses.

Occupational Hazard follows the day in the life of air hostesses Becky and Linda, ACCAirways’ creme de la creme on a
low budget airline where casual sexism is normalised. Though at times tongue in cheek to entertain a plane full of passengers, the show delves deeper than the interplay between Becky and Linda, as they navigate consent and unsolicited
touch as a female in the service industry, asking audience members to ride the waves of their individual emotional journeys. Bolstered by their shared experience, Becky and Linda declare a feminist emergency by the end of the show, and although the flight is scheduled to travel nowhere, perhaps lands somewhere in the land of empowerment and action.
You’re in safe hands when you fly with Becky and Linda, so sit back, relax, and let them lull you into a false sense of security. Boarding passes at the ready, this flight is about to take off!

Trigger Warning: The show deals with the themes of sexual consent, objectification and navigating sexism including the representation of sexual assault which individuals may find triggering. Audience participation is encouraged throughout, but not mandatory. Saturday 28 September at 7:30pm.
