Part of the wooden structure for the new Ice Rink being constructed at Elland Road has collapsed today (22 November 2017).
It is not clear when the incident happened or whether it was a result of today’s strong winds, but Police have said that no one was hurt in the incident.
Mark Johnson from The Ice Rink Company which is developing the site told South Leeds Life that a full assessment of the incident would take place tomorrow. Until that assessment is made he was unwilling to comment on what had happened or how it might delay completion of the building.
The rink, which is being built on land next to the Park & Ride and the railway embankment, has been beset with delays. It was riginally set to open in autumn 2016, but South Leeds Life understands that significant ground issues were encountered when the foundations were dug.
