See off the winter blues with a pizza slice for just 15p at Sbarro

January might be over, but many of us are still feeling the winter blues.

Which is why famous pizza chain SBARRO is offering its New York-style XL pizza slices at a blues-busting 15p at its store in Leeds.

On Saturday (8 February 2025) between 12-8pm you can get the famous New York-style XL pizza slices for just 15p — a homage to the company’s roots, when it set up almost 60 years ago and sold pizza slices to hungry New Yorkers for just 15c. The offer is valid only at the Sbarro outlet at St George’s Retail Park, Middleton, LS10 4TQ.

A spokesperson for Sbarro said:

“We know how tough things can be for a lot of people at this time of year, so we wanted to make life a little easier for people by selling our New York-style XL pizza slices at a small-change price of just 15p, in the spirit of our founders Carmela and Gennaro Sbarro.

“In 1956 they opened the doors to their Italian salumeria in Brooklyn, New York. Carmela ‘Mama’ Sbarro made pizza slices for shift workers looking for a quick meal. Her slices were so popular that they soon opened a second location focused solely on pizza, and now there are 630 Sbarro eateries across 28 countries.

“So at Leeds we decided to do what Mama Sbarro did… selling the finest pizza slices at the same knock-down prices that they were in 1956. We’re giving people who visit our St George’s Retail Park outlet the Sbarro quality for just 15p a slice. That should take the edge off the winter blues!”

EG on the Move operates Sbarro in the UK. Even if you’re still feeling light in the pocket after the January slog, a 15p pizza slice certainly won’t break the bank. And if you want to know how much of a bargain the 15p pizza slice offer is, take a look at what some other household staples went for in 1956:

A gallon of petrol — around 4.5 litres — was just 5s 4d — about 29p. That would set you back £6.50 today. A pack of 20 cigarettes was 25p in 1956, while a pint of beer was just two pence! You could get butter for a penny, a dozen eggs for 3p, and the average house price was just over £2,000. (source: retrowow.co.uk)

You can’t get those prices back for everything … but you can get your favourite New York pizza slices from Sbarro at 1956’s knock-down cost of just 15p, but for one day only at  the Sbarro outlet at St George’s Retail Park, Middleton, Leeds LS10 4TQ, on Saturday 8 February. (Terms and conditions apply).
