Quad bike rider injured in Middleton woodland

Police are reminding people of the dangers of riding quad bikes and off road bikes irresponsibly and sometimes illegally.

PC Lee Armstrong, one of Rothwell NPT’s off-road bikers, spotted three quad bikes being ridden through the woods at the rear of Sissons Road in Middleton. The quads drove off when they saw that they had been spotted.

As PC Armstrong followed the tracks he came across one of the quads which had hit a tree and landed on another of the other quads. An emergency ambulance quad bike attended the location and the rider was taken to hospital with a suspected broken shoulder, ribs and wrist. The quad bike was badly damaged.

The incident happened last Sunday, February 26.

The police also say that following numerous reports of a quad bike and off road bike being driven around Middleton Park and Wood last week, two riders were located and given S59 Warnings. If seen again the vehicles will be seized and riders reported.
