Newly-expanded White Rose play area opens with added family fun

White Rose Shopping Centre has opened its expanded outdoor play area in The Village this month, with new features and even more space for families to enjoy.

The play area has been designed to be accessible for a variety of ages and abilities, and features a large canopy for rain-or-shine play.

New additions have been chosen taking guest feedback into account, and each helps to develop mental and physical skills:

  • A ‘theatre and music’ play house with xylophone and drum panels, which encourages explorative play and social cooperation while climbable areas stimulate motor skills like cross-body coordination
  • A farmyard-inspired tractor slide, which spurs dramatic play with its recognisable theming, building communication, while its tunnel and slide develop cross-coordination and balance skills
  • A wobble bridge, inviting children to nurture their confidence and balance with suspended horizontal logs
  • Balance bumps, an activity trails which trains gross motor skills and contributes to decision-making
  • And a hopscotch area to encourage competitiveness and general social play

The play area and The Village are entirely smoke-free areas as part of Leeds City Council’s Clean Air Leeds ambition.

Ashleigh Kellett, Deputy Centre Director at White Rose Shopping Centre, said:

“Our play area has become a much-loved part of the centre for families since it was opened in 2018. The space was originally designed with input from our guests, so we’re pleased to unveil these additions that we know they’ll enjoy.

“We’re looking forward to seeing many more smiling faces in The Village for years to come.”

White Rose is open from 10am–9pm Monday to Friday, 9am–8pm Saturdays, and 11am–5pm Sundays. Boasting more than 120 shops and plenty of delicious restaurants to please even the fussiest of eaters, as well as nearly 5,000 free parking spaces, White Rose is the perfect family day-out destination.
