The Beeston Hill Community Association (BHCA) is a community-led group which aims to give residents of Beeston Hill the opportunity to get to know neighbours, share their views on community life and be heard. The BHCA has been up and running for just over 3 years now and in that time, it has grown and developed – not only facilitating Community Meetings every other month but also hosting a variety of events throughout the year to bring people across Beeston Hill together.
Since it began, the BHCA has held it’s bi-monthly Community Meetings at The Hamara Centre on Tempest Road. However, from January 2026, we are no longer able to meet at this centre, so we will at a new venue. Community meetings will now be held just up the road at the Building Blocks centre in their upstairs room (there is a lift for accessibility). We are starting the year with our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday 26 January 2026 at 6:30-8pm at Building Blocks (Maud Avenue, LS11 7DD).
This will be a chance to find out what the BHCA has been up to over the last year and our plans for 2026. Our meetings are informal and relaxed and we always have free food together (pizza, this time!) Everyone is welcome. The Hunslet & Riverside Councillors will be attending, so it is also a good opportunity to hear updates from them and have your questions answered.
Looking ahead, instead of holding a regular Community meeting in March we will be hosting another Community Iftar. ‘Iftar’ is the meal that breaks the fast for Muslims during the month of Ramadan.
Over the last two years we have run similar events which have been wonderful opportunities for over 100 local residents, no matter what religion or culture, to get together to share delicious food and learn from each other. Preparations are already underway for this year’s Iftar and the BHCA looks forward to welcoming you. As we are unable to hold the Iftar at The Hamara Centre this year, we also have a new venue for this event. It will be held on Monday 2 March, 5:30pm at Lane End Primary School, Beeston Road, LS11 6AA. This is a free event but booking is required as places are limited. Please book via this link: shorturl.at/XDEgV.
The BHCA is looking forward to the year ahead and hopes to continue celebrating what is strong in our community, not simply focus on what is wrong. By helping residents get to know one another, the BHCA believes it is possible to work together to speak up for Beeston Hill and bring about change. If you live in the area and want to make our community better, we would love to have you involved. We hope you can join us.
