New gantry to be installed on M621 next week

Road users are being advised of closures on a Leeds motorway next week, when a large gantry will be lifted into place.

National Highways is progressing towards the final stages of improvements on the M621 between junctions 1 and 7. The final gantry of this programme will be installed between junctions 2 and 2a of the M621.

The footings for the gantry have been constructed off Elland Road close to the City Evangelical Church and by Holbeck Community Centre.

To keep drivers and the workforce safe while the gantry is set in place, the M621 will be closed in both directions on the nights of Thursday 13 June and Friday 14 June 2024. The closures will be between junctions 1 and 3 eastbound, and junctions 4 and 1 westbound. This work will be carried out on both nights between 8pm and 6am.

After the ‘super-span’ gantry – so called because it stretches across both carriageways – is installed, there will be some further closures while engineers carry out finishing work on the structure and start removing sections of traffic management.

Fully-signed diversion routes will be in place during the closures. All work is subject to the weather and may need to be rescheduled if conditions such as strong winds prevent it going ahead.

To keep updated with all upcoming closures, any last-minute changes to schedule, and to view the diversion maps, please visit the scheme webpage: www.nationalhighways.co.uk/m621j1to7
