Mumtaz come to the aid of hungry children

Following the government’s refusal to fund free school meals during the coming half term holiday, one South Leeds restaurant has stepped up to fill the gap.

The Mumtaz restaurant at Leeds Dock in Hunslet is offering free takeaway meals to children aged 4-16 years old throughout next week. In their post on Instagram the restaurant said:

This is NOT about politics. This is about doing our part to help.

Any child aged between 4 to 16 years can come between 5pm to 6pm from Saturday 24th October 2020 to Sunday 1st November 2020 (8 days in total) to collect a free chicken or vegetarian biryani. We are closed Mondays.

Just turn up in a safe manner with an adult (if you are very young) and we will support you.

WE WILL DO OUR PART TO HELP.

PLEASE spread the word. This literally may be a life saver for some. And if you are a business owner please do consider doing this yourself. Good only begets good. We have to help each other during these very difficult times.

The added on Twitter:

“Covid has killed us. Literally. Not even surviving – BUT this one is on us! If we gna drown we gna go kicking and screaming and fighting the good fight x”

Mumtaz gave away thousands of free meals during the lockdown earlier this year and again when they reopened the restaurant in July.
