Two footbridges across the M621 in South Leeds will be closed for repairs this weekend from 8am on Saturday 20 September to 5pm on Sunday 21 September 2025.
The Tilbury footbridge links the two sections of Elland Road in Holbeck, whilst the Westbury footbridge crosses the motorway near junction 7 linking Westbury Place and Parnaby Road.
National Highways have recently replaced the anti-slip surfacing on the bridges as well as waterproofing and replacing the joint sealant. However, due to construction restrictions, they will need to return to complete some of the work on the ramps of both bridges.
They warn that if the work is not completed it may be neccessary to close the bridges the following weekend as well, but they will remain open on Saturday 27 September, when Leeds United play Bournemouth at Elland Road.
Signed diversions will be in place for pedestrians and cyclists as follows:
M621 Tilbury Road: Follow the diversion via Elland Road, Recreation Avenue and Cemetery Road.
M621 J7 Westbury Place: Follow the diversion via Parnaby Road, Middleton Road, Pepper Road, Clayton Road and Westbury Place.
