Middleton Elderly Aid
Samantha Manager says:
Middleton Elderly Aid is with Samantha Ely. 5 June 2018 ·
It’s 2 years ago today we opened our very own Social Centre for Middleton Elderly Aid. We have gone from strength to strength. Our membership as increased to over 1,000 Middleton residents. The centre is open 6 days a week , have 4 lunch clubs a week, a bacon butty morning and also a full cooked breakfast on Saturday morning. We have a full timetable of activities which include crafts, line dancing, chair based exercise class, computer classes, walking group etc.
We have had over 30 guests from different agencies who have come and presented talks to our members. We have taken 45 members each month on our organised trips and our annual holiday.
The centre have started a monthly entertainment afternoon, memory cafe and tea dance. Employed 4 of our volunteers into roles within our organisation.
Recently Our Pie and Pea night because of being so popular has changed from monthly to fortnightly. Where can you get pie and peas, plus hot drinks and a Sweet for £1.00.
A memory tree, been donated by a members loved one, to remember those who have passed away, is in the centre. You can see the tree in the centre with the names of our loved ones on love hearts.
The centre has made over 500 referrals. Here at Middleton Elderly aid we get a lot of positive feedback of how we have really made a positive difference in their lives and our aim is to carry on with this and reach more of our local residents. We couldn’t have done this without our invaluable team of volunteers.
The out reach team run by Micheal has become so busy, Tracey has joined the team, and Tracey helped me at the weekend. Onwards and upwards.
Ken Says:
Middleton Elderly Aid is a fantastic organisation. Samantha, staff and Volunteers, who keep this centre open should be very proud of what they have achieved over the last 2 years. It was in February 2018 when i moved back to Middleton, and made myself known to Samantha and if anything i could be of help.
Me and Samantha quickly set up a Walking group to add to the one i host in Belle Isle, and because so popular changed from every 2 weeks to weekly and runs from the centre every Wednesday, when we have quite regularly 8 to 10 people out on the walk.
Also in February 2018, me and Sam started up a Memory Cafe which is held last Wednesday in the Month, and is open to people who have memory issues and there carers.
Different organisation attend, and give out advise to people who suffer memory issues, like the Fire Brigade, Police, and the Gas board send volunteers to help with filling in our Scrap books.
My local Memory and Mental health Social Worker, came to the centre for the 1st time last week and takes over form Alex. He is to come every month from now on.
To finish, I Recently started a News Cafe, from the centre, where local people call in and give local News Stories to me for South Leeds Life, Blog and Newspaper.
So all the best to Sam, staff, volunteers and the centre for the future.
Ken.
