The Cross Flatts Lantern Festival returned for the 4th time on Friday 9 December 2016. Approximately 400 people came out on an unseasonably mild December evening to enjoy seeing the park beautifully lit up with lanterns and fairy lights.

The crowds were treated to performances by The South Leeds Academy and Johnny and Mikey Walker, the amazing Kidz Klub Leeds doing some interactive storytelling and of course the animals brought by the Purple Pig Company.
This was all followed by the Salvation Army band leading the carol singing and beautiful singing from the St Luke’s School choir. Not even the downpour towards the end of the carols could dampen what was a truly magical evening.
Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP commented on Twitter:
“The Lantern Festival in Cross Flatts Park tonight. People drawn in by the lights, the singing and the Salvation Army. Thanks to everyone.”
The event was funded by Leeds City Council Inner South Community Committee and the Salvation Army and organised by the Church Together in Leeds 11.
