Following resident and park user feedback, Pepper Road Park in Hunslet is to receive two new picknick tables, two new benches and several new thermoplastic ground play markings.
Cllr Paul Wray (Labour, Hunslet & Riverside) said:
“Following the initial approval of the funding by Cllr Mohammed Iqbal and myself for the installation of these benches and subsequently for ground play makings, I’m glad that formal approval was given with no objection at the Inner South Community Committee for the seating. The play markings have been approved but will still need formal ratification.
“Park users had feedback to Mohammed and me that the lack of seating was put some parents and grandparents off bringing children to the park as they had nowhere to sit. The lack of activities for young children was also noted. The installation of the picknick tables, benches and thermoplastic ground play markings are an initial step to make this park more welcoming.”
The new additions are now on order and should be installed on site within ten weeks subject to delivery timescales but the play markings may take a little longer. Cllr Paul Wray also said plans for additional park equipment for other types of park users were also being drawn up and would be announced at a later date.
