The annual gala organised by Hunslet Festival takes place on Saturday, writes one of the organisers, Steve Thompson.

Hunslet Festival was formed in its present format in January 2003. Since then we have had many successful galas. Attractions this year include:

In the Family Zone Arena: Supreme Starlets Majorettes, Keldon School of Dance, The Hunslet Club Showcase, Zumba dancing with Keep fit Julie, Icon Dance Academy, and The Hunslet Hawks Cheerleaders

In the Activities Zone, there are a variety of rides including a Bungee Trampoline and the largest Inflatable Slide in Europe called “The Titanic” along with a small bouncy castle for small children, there will also be a classic Fire Engine.

One of the semi-finals for the I Love South Leeds ‘Junior Superstar’ Talent Show will be taking place in the grounds of St Mary’s Church.

The Workshop Zone will be providing the opportunity for people to try out taster sessions in circus skills with the Rapide Brothers, a Zumba session in St. Mary’s church hall and the chance to learn about and handle various wildlife with Morley Exotic Animal Rescue.

All this is in addition to a selection of catering concessions and the usual stalls of local community groups and organisations.

Spaces for stalls are now fully booked for the gala field but some provision can be made in the car park of St Mary’s Church if more spaces are required.

The event runs 11.30am-4pm on the field adjacent to Grove Road (opposite the Penny Hill) off Church Street.

The organising committee are looking to the local community to assist in the smooth running of the gala on the day through volunteering to help set up on the day itself. If you can help out in anyway or to volunteer on the day please contact the committee on 07920 104064   email: info@hunsletfestival.org.uk   or just ‘google’  hunsletfestival on the web.
