Hunslet post a profit in promotion year

Hunslet RLFC’s Finance Director Paul Owen informed members at the AGM last night (26 February 2025) that the club made a small profit for the financial year ending November 2024.

“A £2k profit may not seem significant but reflects the Board’s commitment to spending within our means and ensuring the future sustainability for the Club. We had gone into the year budgeting for a loss of £60k, never ideal, but we had built reserves over previous seasons to ensure we could cover it. To recover this situation and at the same time secure promotion is something everyone connected with the club can be proud of.”

Owen continued “Our success in the play offs obviously came at a price in terms of additional winning pay and we are grateful to Tony Levison, Jason Peterkin and Andy Herrick, of our main sponsor 247 Blinds, for their financial backing which has been unwavering over the last 5 years. We were also boosted by additional revenue from our bars and match day hospitality function, which is fast gaining a reputation as one of the best in the game. The 1895 home fixtures also provided a welcome boost to gate receipts.”

So what does the future hold for the supporter owned Club?

“Thanks to Tony and Jason we have been able to increase our playing budget for 2025. We have forecast additional revenue from increased crowds but this is very much an unknown so we have not got carried away. It’s no secret we have one of the lowest playing budgets in the league. What we do have though is a collectiveness running through the Club, and a determination to learn and improve together, both on and off the pitch. The Phoenix is Rising.”
