The Hunslet Club is pleased to announce the first professional ballet production to grace it’s stage, Northern Ballet’s Ugly Duckling, which is the Leeds based, world renound company’s first ballet especially for children.
A poor duckling is lonely and fed-up, shunned by those around her who see her as too ugly to fit in. Follow the duckling on her journey as she overcomes her troubles and turns into a beautiful swan, beginning a happy new life.
Retelling the famous Hans Christian Anderson fairytale, Northern Ballet’s Ugly Duckling is the perfect opportunity to introduce your little ones to the magic of live ballet, music and theatre.
Performed at the Hunslet Club on Sunday October 21st with showings at 2:30 and 4pm, the performance will last approximately 45 minutes.
Says Phillipa Ranger, Hunslet Club Arts Development Worker: “As a club with a thriving membership of over 50 children & young people who take part in our ballet classes every week, we are thrilled to be hosting a professional ballet production which is itself a first specifically for children by the world class Northern Ballet. We are sure this is going to inspire our dancers and look forward to seeing it very much.”
£5 adults, £4 children. Further information, video and online ticket booking can be found here.
Ugly Duckling is an audience outreach project funded by Leeds City Council as part of Leeds Inspired. This is the first time Northern Ballet will produce a ballet for young children and the aim is to engage families in theatre, art and music in a fun, lively and approachable way. Thanks to this collaboration Northern Ballet will also deliver special guest ballet workshops to club members in the run up to the performances, so if your child is interested in taking up ballet, sign them up for regular Hunslet Club classes.
