It is 75 years since The Hunslet Boys Club, as it was then, was set up. The club is planning a year of celebrations kicking off with a Review of the Year gala evening on Friday 24 April 2015.
Andrea Edwards, the club’s Operations Manager said:
“This will be a glittering occasion celebrating all things that make The Hunslet Club the place to be for young people in Leeds.
“The Review of the Year will showcase our evening and weekend activity provision as well as providing an opportunity to recognise those individuals who play a vital role in making the Club such a success.”
Nominations are now open for Awards, which will be made in the following categories:
- Open Age Member of the Year
- Club Ambassador of the Year
- Coach of the Year
- Volunteer of the Year
- Young Volunteer of the Year
- Young Member of the Year (Male)
- Young Member of the Year (Female)
- Special Achievement Award
Club members are encouraged to pick up a card from reception and place their nomination in a special post box in the club. Nominations will close on Friday 13 March.
During the evening a series of short films will showcase football, gymnastics, dance, rugby, boxing, the youth club, and the Sport England project. There will also be a launch for the What’s Your 75? Campaign. Members will be challenged the video themselves doing something 75 times, it could be keepy-uppy, star jumps or spelling out words, then challenge another member to do the same. As well as being great fun, the challenge will generate funds for the club.
The 75th anniversary will be the focus of two more events later this year, the Summer Gala on 11 July and a 75th Year Weekend of Celebrations 27-29 November 2015.
