A new catering unit is set to boost income for a community club helping youngsters in south Leeds.
Planning permission has been granted for a temporary shipping container unit to serve hot and cold food and drinks at the Hunslet Club.
The non-profit organisation applied to the council to install the facility to serve players and spectators taking part in sports activities.
Catering plans were drawn up after a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) was built at the Hillidge Road club, which provides sports and educational activities for youngsters.
A design report said the unit, funded by the Football Foundation, would raise cash and bring hospitality training opportunities for young people.
It said:: “The proposal seeks to enhance the club’s facilities by providing on-site catering that will serve members, visitors and the wider community.
“Most importantly, the development will generate a sustainable revenue stream to support the club’s vital community activities, reinforcing its long-term future as a local institution.”
A Leeds City Council report said food and drinks would be served from a converted steel shipping container painted green.
It said: “The proposed catering unit has been sited adjacent to a sports pitch to offer hot and cold food and drink to players and spectators.”
The unit would help fund the club’s charitable work and the maintenance of its green spaces, the report said.
It said: “Moreover, the proposal would strengthen the club’s role as a community facility for the local area.”
