What a day it’s been! So much excitement, great atmosphere and unbelievable tennis…
The Young Leaders were gifted tickets to Wimbledon by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) for becoming tennis ‘Activators’. They helped raise awareness of tennis and helped members of the community to try the sport at the Let’s Move event at Cross Flatts Park in May.
The Youth Leaders play regular sports and shadow coaches to learn and help deliver tennis as well as other sports to children aged between 8 and 16 years old.
We’re grateful to the LTA for this unique opportunity and for providing the tickets. This is truly a rare opportunity and these Young Leaders are the first in their families and their communities to visit Wimbledon. Hopefully this will increase their love for tennis.
Thank you to StreetGames for being the connector and for enabling this to happen.
We’d also like to say a big thank you to our Beeston & Holbeck and Hunslet & Riverside ward councillors for approving the Community Committee funding to help cover the cost of transport, and to Hunslet Club for lending us their minibus. It was a long drive, but worth it!
All of this is working towards breaking down barriers and giving all young people a deserving chance in life to be treated equally.
