The first meeting of the expanded Outer South Community Committee, now including Middleton Park ward, took place on Monday (14 July 2025) at Leeds Civic Hall.
As we reported in April, following a reorganisation, Middleton Park ward now joins Ardsley & Robin Hood, Morley North, Morley South and Rothwell wards on the Outer South Community Committee. Beeston & Holbeck and Hunslet & Riverside wards have joined Armley and Kirstall wards on a new Inner South West Community Committee, which met on 2 July.
Being the first meeting of the council year and following a review and reorganisation of the Community Committees across the city, much of the meeting was taken up with procedural matters.
The committee elected four ‘champions’ to lead work on specific areas. Cllr Emma Pogson-Golden (SDP, Middleton Park) was elected to be the committee’s champion for Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care.
Appointments were made to various outside bodies with Middleton Park members being appointed as follows:
- Belle Isle Senior Action – Cllr Emma Pogson-Golden
- Middleton Elderly Aid – Cllr Rob Chesterfield
- Belle Isle Tenant Management Organisation – Cllr Wayne Dixon and Cllr Emma Pogson-Golden
- Children’s Services Beeston, Cottingley and Middleton cluster – Cllr Emma Pogson-Golden
- Children’s Services Joint Extended Schools and Services (JESS) Cluster – Cllr Emma Pogson-Golden
- Local Care Partnership – Inner South Communities – Cllr Rob Chesterfield
- Local Care Partnership – Bramley, Wortley & Middleton – Cllr Wayne Dixon
A range of revenue and capital grants were considered by the committee and the following grants relating to Belle Isle and Middleton were approved:
- Middleton and Belle Isle Festive Light Switch On Events – £12,065
- Woodville Square shrubbery clearance – £1,230
- Health & Wellbeing with Bollywood Dancing – £500
