A large branch has fallen across Barkly Road in Beeston this afternoon (31 August 2023).
The branch of what is believed to be an ash tree fell across a Mercedes car, which did not appear to be badly damaged. Police closed the road, between Theodore Street/Oakhurst Mount and Wooler Street, at about 3:30pm.
We have previously reported that a large number of ash trees in Cross Flatts Park have been infected by Ash Dieback, which weakens trunks and boughs. Further survey work was conducted by drones in the park earlier this month and the Council has contracted Mott MacDonald to carry out a survey of ash trees within 20m of Leeds’ A and B roads using drive-by data collection to identify trees at risk.
