On Friday (17 December 2021) two donkeys will journey through the streets of Hunslet as part of a Nativity Story with a difference and you have chance to be part of it! The event will tell the true story of Christmas in a fun and interactive way and has been arranged by Hunslet Gathering – a new Anglican church in Hunslet.
The journey will be begin on Church Street (4pm), travel between the Hemingway flats, through the common/green space then stopping at the shop on Pepper Lane. The return leg meanders through Rocheford Close, Balmoral Chase and Belinda Street with a stop off in the car park of Assisi Place. The final stop is on Hunslet square outside the Community Hub & Library followed by refreshments at the Involve Centre (old Salvation Army building, 5-6pm).
Each stop will include a Christmas carol and part of the Nativity story retold by an all-star cast of local children and adults. Music will also be played throughout the walks between the stops. The entourage will be lit up with a variety of eye-catching fairy and spot lights.
We would love you and your loved ones to be part of the fun by either joining in all or part of the journey or meeting us at one, or more, of the stops.
We encourage people to bring a light, torch or lantern and if you are feeling inspired why not dress in Nativity clothes?
There will also be opportunities to stroke and feed the donkeys.
Parts of the event will be broadcast on the Hunslet Gathering Facebook page – www.facebook.com/hunsletgathering
Further details on the event including the route can be found here. Alternatively contact Ben Hutchinson on 07419 366 058.
Everyone is invited back to the Involve Centre on Whitfield Avenue between 5-6pm for hot drinks, refreshments, crafts and to meet the donkeys. Please bring a face covering.
On Sunday (19 December 2021) from 2-3pm Hunslet Gathering are joining with friends to sing Christmas songs outside Morrisons – all are welcome to help us share festive joy. Following this there will be a Carol service and refreshments at Involve from 3:30-4:30pm.
