Candlelighters charity to hold silent auction for pink artwork

Leeds-based children’s cancer charity, Candlelighters, is holding a silent auction for a bespoke painting as part of its Pink It Up campaign this June.

In a bid to raise funds depleted by the current coronavirus pandemic, Candlelighters will auction a special work of art, donated by local artist Laura Ross. Ross has created the piece especially for Candlelighters, in keeping with the ‘Be Pink’ theme of its Pink It Up campaign.

The market value for the piece has been determined at £250, with a reserve of £100 for the auction.

The Pink It Up campaign launched last year with a view to ‘turn Yorkshire pink’ for a week, raising funds and awareness for Candlelighters. This year, with many fundraising events cancelled, the charity has turned Pink It Up into a month-long event throughout June, with three key concepts – ‘Be Pink’, ‘Eat Pink’ and ‘Party Pink’ – and activities to support each, such as the auction, a celebrity bake off, and a pink party.

“I was thrilled to produce this bespoke piece for Candlelighters. The charity’s values of fun and positivity reflect the vibrancy of my work, and this piece was designed with the charity in mind. I am delighted to support a charity local to me, who are doing fantastic work for families across Yorkshire” said Ross.

Candlelighters supports children and families affected by childhood cancer across Yorkshire and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has adapted much of its support offering, including taking services online where possible. For families staying on the ward at Leeds Children’s Hospital, Candlelighters has provided care packages and essential services such as laundry, to parents staying on the ward who are not allowed to leave for any reason, to minimise the risk of the virus entering the ward.

One mum said:

“Thank you to Vicky and Emma for helping to make my daughter’s 7th birthday so special today, by hosting a virtual craft session. All my children love the sessions and I love how it brings out the creativity in them. It gives me and dad an hour to catch up with work or make phone calls and listening to them talking to Vicky and Emma makes my heart smile. The support Candlelighters offer their oncology families is simply amazing, thank you so much.”

You can enter into the silent auction by submitting your offer and contact details to pink@candlelighters.org.uk. The auction closes at 12pm on Friday 26 June 2020, all other terms and conditions and the current highest bid can be found on the Candlelighters website, here www.candlelighters.org.uk/pink-auction.
