South Leeds Life will be inviting all the candidates to state their reasons for standing and we are planning to hold an online hustings meeting where you can put your questions to them.
Voting takes place on Thursday 4 July. In order to vote you must be on the electoral register by midnight on Tuesday 18 June.
If you are already registered to vote you do not need to re-register. If you do need to register you must now do this online here: www.electoralcommission.org.uk/. You will need your National Insurance number and the process only takes a few minutes.
Polling cards, which include detail of which polling station you must use have been sent out to people who are already registered. A second batch will be sent out on Monday 24 June. You can still vote if you do not have a poll card, or don’t take it to the polling station, so long as you are registered.
This will be the first general election held where Voter ID will be required to be shown by all those wishing to vote in person at a polling station on polling day. Guidance on what forms of identification will be accepted and how to apply for a new free Voter ID can be found at www.gov.uk/voting-photo-id. Community hubs and libraries in Leeds will be able to help voters complete the application form including having a photo taken. The deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate (free voter ID) is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.
The deadline to register for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June via www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote.
The deadline to register for a proxy vote, where someone attends the polling station on your behalf, is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June via www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote.
