Leeds City Council is warning commuters and other road users to be aware of plans to close the Bridgewater Place junction tomorrow (Friday 9 January 2015) due to high winds.
Diversions for high sided vehicles will be in place from midnight until 4am with the full road closure currently planned from 4am. As the closure is expected to last into the morning rush hour, road users are advised to allow for longer journeys.
Pedestrians as well as traffic will be diverted from the junction of Water Lane, Victoria Road and Neville Street.
Conditions will be closely monitored and the road closure lifted once the wind has reduced to an acceptable level, predicted to be around noon.
Traffic updates are available on Twitter from @LeedsTravelInfo and further updates about junction closures will be posted on the Leeds City Council website at www.leeds.gov.uk and on the council’s press office Twitter feed @LeedsCC_News.
A Leeds City Council spokeswoman said:
“Please be aware there may be significant traffic delays tomorrow morning as the Bridgewater Place junction will be closed from 4am due to the predicted high winds. Diversions for high sided vehicles will start at midnight with the full closure being implemented at 4am when conditions are predicted to worsen.
“We will be re-programming traffic lights to help reduce disruption and road users will be alerted by warning signs. Unfortunately delays are inevitable and we hope people will understand that safety has to come first. The junction will re-open once the wind reduces to an acceptable level.”
