A group of Holbeck residents have joined together to help turn around the fortunes of their struggling Holbeck Social (Working Mens) Club.
Many clubs and pubs are feeling the effects of the econmic downturn. The new Friends of Holbeck Social Club group is there to support the WMC and has already helped to clean up the club’s grounds.
They say:
“We are a group of local community minded folks interested in making Holbeck a better place in which to live and work.
“The Social Club is under threat due to lack of members , it is underused and suffering from the economic downturn. Our mission is to help where we can in lifting the profile of the club and generally offering help and support.”

The YEP reported last year that the working mens club – the oldest in the UK – was in danger of closing.
