A new initiative to help people tackle financial problems is recruiting volunteers to work across South Leeds.
Money Buddies provide face to face support to people experiencing financial difficulties. The project which was established last year by Ebor Gardens Advice Centre in East Leeds has proved to be very effective in terms of the positive outcomes for Money Buddy Clients.
Volunteering as a Money Buddy is a great personal development opportunity, full training and supervision is offered. Volunteers will be given the opportunity to work towards a level 2 qualification as part of the role. A number of Money Buddies involved in the pilot project in East Leeds have since gone onto secure paid employment.
The cost of recruiting, training and supervising four Money Buddy volunteers to work in South Leeds has been funded by Councillors on the Inner South Community Committee.
The work involves supporting people who have already received expert advice on a one-to-one basis. The training will equip the volunteers to:
- Deal confidently with Creditors
- Identify Grants that Could Reduce Energy Bills
- Provide a Safe Place to Report Illegal Loan Sharks
- Gain new skills that help gain employment
Money Buddies is being run in various parts of the city by Ebor Gardens Advice Centre who pioneered the approach in East Leeds.
