Hunslet RLFC 0-58 Barrow Raiders
Hunslet turned in one of their poorest performances of the season at the South Leeds Stadium yesterday (22 June 2025) losing out to Barrow Raiders 0-58.
It was especially galling after last weeks game at Featherstone Rovers where the Parksiders deserved to win.
Barrow’s Theerapol Ritson and Shane Toal scored a hat trick each as the Raiders tormented Hunslet’s defence.
The first minutes were pretty even with both sides respecting possession, but once Ritson made a break on the left on 8 minutes and fed Toal to score Hunslet seemed to panic in defence.
3 minutes later Ritson broke again and quick hands to the right saw Ryan Shaw go over. 0-12 after only 11 minutes.
Although Hunslet tried to get back in the game when Ryan Westerman went close from a Lee Gaskell ball, they couldn’t maintain the attack.
A freakish bounce got Barrow good field position, and even though Billy Jowitt saved a try, another Ritson break this time on the right sent Barrow 0-16 up on 25 minutes.
Ritson was too hot to handle, but as the game went on both teams started to make mistakes. Hunslet sought out a try before half time with both Lee Gaskell and Lachy Hanneghan being at the head of the attack. Although Ethan O’Hanlon was held up and nearly scored from a Gaskell kick the Parksiders went in 0-16 down at the break.

First try was important in the second period, and although Will Kirby went close for Hunslet, the Parksiders’ defence melted away when Ritson sent Toal in again on the left-hand side. 0-22
Another try on 51 minutes for Shaw put the game to bed and although a short kick off nearly profited for Hunslet’s on-loan winger Joe Ward, it wasn’t to be Hunslets day. 0-26
The rest of the game was a mistake ridden mess for Hunslet.
On 61 minutes a kick from the scrum was won by Ritson for his brace, then 10 minutes later Ryan Brown went over too easily. 0-38
Ritson and Toal completed hat-tricks and Wood scooted over to make it 0-56 in added time.
Hunslet had kicked out on the full or not got 10 yards and looked unconfident in all they did.
On the hooter after Hunslet dropped out on the full, Ryan Shaw kicked a penalty to complete a good day with the boot converting 9 from 11.
Not much to take from this game, but certainly next week’s home game against London Broncos is a must win as Hunslet try to bring some of their good away form to the South Leeds Stadium.
On a happier note the Tricks of the Trade sponsors Man of the Match went to Harvey Hallas on his 100th appearance for Hunslet, and the Phoenix Bar supporters Man of the Match to Ethan O’Hanlon.
