Asha leads the way in keeping digitally safe

Digital safety was the focus of activity at Asha Neighbourhood Project recently as part of their involvement in 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence.

Some 17 women attended over three sessions to hear, over tea and biscuits, how to stay safer digitally and online.

An international campaign that runs from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) – December 10 (Human Rights Day), 16 Days of Activism is marked annually at Beeston-based charity Asha as part of their mission to keep women safe and improve the lives of women and girls in South Leeds.

The theme of the campaign this year is ‘UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls’ with a special focus on digital safety being central to gender equality digital abuse.

The digital sessions were led by Asha’s development workers Syedun and Tahena. They said:

“It was great to see so many women – some wearing orange, the colour of hope for a future free from violence – keen to learn how they can better protect themselves online and appreciative for the information provided.”
