Arrests made after pedestrian dies in Middleton crash

A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road traffic collision in Leeds in which a woman pedestrian died.

The 29-year-old man was arrested this morning (29 June 2024) on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in relation to the collision in Thorpe Lane, Middleton, last night.

At 9.38pm, the pedestrian, a 35-year-old woman, was hit by a blue Volkswagen Golf R, near to the junction with Redbarn Close.

She received emergency treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later. The car failed to stop at the scene.

Earlier this morning, a vehicle, believed to be the one involved in the collision, was found abandoned.

Officers have also arrested 31-year-old man on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both men remain in custody.

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and are keen to hear from anyone who saw the Golf being driven in the area prior to the collision and after it fled the scene, particularly anyone with relevant dashcam footage.
