Leeds City Council’s Apprenticeship Hub ran a successful South Leeds apprenticeship event last Tuesday (25 November 2014) at the John Charles Centre for Sport.
The event was aimed at 16-24 year olds including those not in employment, education or training and offered opportunities with a range of employers such as Sulzer Pumps, St James Hospital, GB Group, Philips Hair Salon, to name a few. Training providers Leeds City College and Leeds College of Building, among others, were also at the event.
The apprenticeship event offered opportunities in a wide range of sectors, from Agriculture and Animal Care to Business, Administration and Law. There were also specific themed areas for Construction and Creative & Digital Media sectors at the event.
Young people attending the fair could also receive information and advice on apprenticeship choices and application support with apprenticeship vacancies by the National Apprenticeship Service, Leeds Pathways and Connexions.
Nearly 250 young people attended the fair from the surrounding area and local schools and feedback has been excellent with young people stating there was a wide variety of providers and employers.
Councillor Kim Groves (Labour, Middleton Park) and Inner South Community Committee Lead for Employment, Skills and Welfare said:
“It’s always really encouraging to see the talented and enthusiastic people who come to our apprenticeship events looking to take their first step into a new career. There was a great buzz at this event and some of these apprenticeship opportunities offer a real chance to get involved with projects that are literally changing the shape of Leeds. I’ll look forward to seeing more future apprentices at forthcoming events.”
