Hundreds of people took advantage of the dazzling array of free interactive movies screened at Leeds Dock last weekend (Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August 2014).
Site owners Allied London teamed up with Sneaky Experience to show free screenings of Disney’s Frozen, The Princess Bride, The Land Before Time and Dinosaur 13, which is already being hailed as the documentary of the year.
Lucy Whalley, project co-ordinator for Leeds Dock owner Allied London, said:
“We thought the free screenings would prove popular but we were blown away by the sheer volume of people of all ages who came down to catch a host of classic films and take part in the interactive fun.
“We’re planning more of these types of events moving forward, as we continue our work to create a vibrant, multi-purpose waterfront destination, with a string of exciting spectacles and activities already confirmed for the coming months.”
Forthcoming events at Leeds Dock include local theatre group Slung Low, who will be performing their new production of The White Whale (4th September- 14th September), with an incredible set consisting of boats and floating platforms.
Alan Lane, director of Slung Low theatre, said: “Leeds Dock is proving itself to be an exciting environment with huge potential and we are really excited to be premiering The White Whale here. I am excited to see what happens here in the future.”
As part of its work to transform Leeds Dock, Allied London recently completed the installation of approximately 60 metres of stepped astro-turf banking next to the waterfront area, serving as seating for hundreds of spectators during outdoor events.
Work is also well underway to create new public gardens along the main approach to the waterfront, offering a mixture of relaxation and play. In addition, improvements are also being made to the pedestrian route linking the site to the rest of the city.
