The annual series of Sunday Bands in Cross Flatts Park, Beeston kicks off this week (22 June 2014).
Bands in the Park is organised by Friends of Cross Flatts Park, a group of volunteers who promote positive activities in the park. Now in its eleventh year the concert season has been part of transforming what was once seen as a no-go area into a popular family amenity.
This year’s concerts range from New Orleans jazz band Alligator Gumbo this week, to the latin sounds of Mestisa, traditional folk songs of Alistair Russell and Chris Parkinson, not forgetting country dancing with the ceilidh band Dr Reelgood.
Tea and homemade cake will be on sale from the newly refurbished Watsonian Pavilion and children’s craft activities will be laid on making the concerts a perfect family afternoon out.
Sunday 6 July will also see the annual Beeston Dog Show, which includes fun categories such as waggiest tail and friendliest smile.
The concerts have been partly funded by local councillors on the Inner South Area Committee. Councillor Adam Ogilvie (Beeston & Holbeck) said:
“The Friends of Cross Flatts Park have done an excellent job hosting Bands in the Park and the Beeston Dog Show in previous years and we are delighted to have been able to fund the events again this year. We are sure they will be a great success.”
The free concerts run each Sunday from 22 June – 27 July, 2:30-4:30pm.
