Here’s your regular roundup of what’s making South Leeds tick on other websites, blogs and across Facebook.
The Old Peacock pub on Elland Road has been refurbished and is open in time for the new football season. It’s been taken over by the Ossett Brewery and features nine real ales and a strong food menu. Two reviews pop up this week, the first is a wonderfully eccentric through-Canadian-eyes review on the Culture Vulture blog. The second is by self confessed United fan and Beeston resident Ewan Mitchell on his Tonight’s Menu food blog. Both suggest the pub is worth a visit.
Whilst we’re on a sporting theme, it was good to see Hunslet Hawks return to winning ways on Sunday. There are lots of photos from their win over Workington on their Facebook page as well as a full match report on their website.
There’s a two for one offer on at Middleton Park golf course throughout August. This is the perfect time to get out for a game, maybe introduce a son or daughter to the game and help save the course. Details of the offer are on the Save Middleton Park Golf Course Facebook group.
It was all happening at the Cross Flatts ParkRun on Saturday. Lots of details and encouragement on their Facebook Page. Parkrun is a free, measured and timed, 5k run or walk each Saturday morning. Saturday saw 56 runners, a new course record and 15 first timers and 26 personal best times. They’re a friendly bunch so do get down and join them.
I’m sure we’ve all been wondering just who won the Friends of Middleton Park’s recent dog show. They have now posted a picture of Teddy and his owner Issy on their Facebook page. Teddy is, of course, a border collie. There are also more photos from Sunday’s falconry display.
It’s good to see the Council using social media to communicate with residents. On the litter and rubbish front it’s worth “liking” the South & Outer East Locality Team Facebook page. They’ve recently employed more litter pickers to work in our area and each has been introduced Luke in the Bodmins and Malverns, Tony in Belle Isle and James in Cottingley. There’s also news that one of the team’s enforcement officers recently did an estate walkabout with Cottingley Hall TRAC and Aire Valley Homes that included two people being fined – for dropping a fag end and for letting her dog stray and be on the road without a lead.
There are lots of positive posts and lovely photos over on Amber’s Autism Awareness Facebook page. This is a brilliant way of explaining autism to people like me who know little why people with autism behave the way they do. It seems Amber is making real progress too!
And finally, South Leeds Music Centre is celebrating 40 years with a special concert in October. The latest news on their Facebook page is that tickets are now on sale. There are also videos from recent rehearsals.
