
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start on Saturday morning with the return of the Middleton Pop Up Market, after their winter break. You’ll find lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewelery, soaps and food; all made by local people at Middleton Park Circus from 10am-2pm.
Over in Belle Isle Trinity Network host their Community Reflections Café on Saturday 10am-12pm at the United reformed Church, Nesfield Avenue, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG
Hunslet ARLFC’s first home game of the season is on Saturday afternoon when they take on York Acorn at Hunslet Club Sports Village, opposite Morrisons, kick off at 2:30pm.
On Saturday evening Leeds Knights take on the Romford Raiders in the NIHL National Division. The ice hockey match faces off at 6:30pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
On Sunday the Friends of Middleton Park are leading a free guided winter walk exploring the impact of the Brandling family on Middleton and Leeds. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1pm.
It’s a double celebration at St Joseph’s Catholic Club in Hunslet on Sunday. Starting by marking Mothers’ Day with a Brunch and Bubbles from 11am-3pm and then celebrating St Patrick’s Day with live music from Moike from 4-6pm. The club is on Whitfield Avenue, LS10 2PT.
On Monday Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library (annexe) have organised a Jobs Fair from 10am-1pm. This is a chance to come and speak to employers directly about opportunities in Leeds. The King’s Trust, Step Into Care, Leeds City Council and other care providers will be there. Staff will be on hand to support you with CVs and other issues. This is a drop-in event, no need to book.
There are a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and at St Matthew’s Community Centre from 10am-12pm. Then on Thursday they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street and the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road, both from 10am-12pm.
Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.
Join Opera North for another free music concert, with free hot chocolate. Come and listen on Thursday, 12-1pm at the Penny Hill Centre, Church Street, Hunslet, LS10 2AR.
St Luke’s Tenants & Residents Association will be holding their bi-monthly meeting on Thursday at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, LS11 8PD, starting at 6:30pm.
And finally, Rooted, the new crafting group are holding another workshop this Friday evening, 7:30-9:30pm upcycling old, broken and unloved jewellery. The workshop is at 153 Beeston Road, call Tannia to book on 07917 157830.
