Middleton Primary School welcomed MindMate last month, who worked with Year 6 pupils on understanding and supporting their mental health.
During the visit, the MindMate team helped pupils explore what can trigger feelings of anxiety and worry. Through open discussion and engaging activities, the children were encouraged to recognise their own emotions and understand that anxiety is a normal feeling that everyone experiences at times.
Pupils were taught a range of simple but effective breathing techniques that can help them feel calmer when they are stressed or anxious. The children practised these techniques together and learned how they can be used both in school and at home whenever they need support.
A key part of the session focused on self-care and how looking after mental health is just as important as physical health. The children really enjoyed discussing positive ways they can support themselves, sharing ideas such as taking time to relax, talking to someone they trust, and doing activities that make them feel happy and calm.
The session was well received by all, and pupils left feeling more confident about managing their emotions and supporting their own wellbeing.
Middleton Primary would like to thank MindMate for such a valuable and informative visit that will have a lasting positive impact on their Year 6 pupils.
