
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start this week in Cottingley where the Autumn Fair takes place on Saturday, 11am-2pm. There will be stalls inside, free pumpkin carving and autumn crafts in the garden and refreshments from the kichen. At the Community Centre, LS11 0HJ.
It’s also the Finese Autumn Fair on Saturday from12-3pm at Beeston Parish Centre, Town Street, opposite Nisa. Expect stalls, food and fun.
South Bank Sanctuary are holding Let Your Light Shine from 4-6pm on Saturday at 2 Hunslet Hall Road, LS11 6TT. The event takes place indoor and out with ‘Trunk and Treats’, crafts, hot chocolate, hot dogs and fancy dress.
Transform 25, the performance art festival is back in Holbeck on Saturday with It’s Got Legs!!!!! at Slung Low’s Warehouse in Holbeck 9:15-10:15pm. Then the festival ends with a Doomsday Disco at Testbed in Hunslet, 10pm-2am. Tickets from transformfestival.org
Don’t forget British Summer Time ends at 2am on Sunday with the clocks going back an hour. So that’s an extra hour in bed, or an extra hour on Sunday morning, depending on your body clock.
Down at Leeds Dock they are holding another Makers’ Market at Fearns on the Boulevard, LS10 1PZ. Discover handmade lino prints, eco-conscious skincare, bespoke illustrations, botanical art and recycled silver jewellery – plus so much more! It’s a treasure trove of fresh discoveries and one-of-a-kind pieces – perfect for a relaxed weekend browse. Sunday 10am-4pm.
Running all week, live shows, crafts, and trails will bring ancient Rome to life at the Royal Armouries Museum at Leeds Dock. Family friendly and free, but booking recommended.
On Sunday the Friends of Middleton Park host a guided walk for Halloween exploring deaths in the park. Meet at 1pm at the Visitor Centre by the lake, wear stout shoes and dress for the weather.
Also on Sunday the Leeds Knights take on the Sheffield Steeldogs in the NIHL National Cup. The ice hockey match faces off at 5:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road. They then take on the Hull Seahawks on Thursday at 7:30pm also at home.
As it’s school half term The Hunslet Club will be holding its regular Activity Camp starting on Monday and running through the week. Full details and booking at hunsletclub.org.uk
Skelton Grange Environment Centre are holding another Wild Play day for children aged 8-12 years on Tuesday, 10am-4pm. Get ready to play wild games, tackle exciting challenges and dive into the world of bushcraft – exploring nature, building shelters, lighting fires, using tools safely and even preparing food in the wild.
A Councillor advice surgery will be held at Middleton Elderly Aid’s Social Centre on Acre Road on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am.
At Holbeck Cemetery, Fairfax Road, LS11 8SY, volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Wednesday to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.
There is a coffee morning and bingo at Cardinal Court in Beeston on Wednesday 10am-12pm organised by MHA South Leeds.
Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, off Church Street, LS10 2NS.
There will be a Police Contact Point at the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road on Thursday 10am-12pm. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. There will also be a contact point on Friday morning, 10am-12pm, at Cottingley Community Centre, LS11 0HJ.
The Salvation Army hold their monthly Friendship Lunch on Thursday, 11am-1pm at their base on Hunslet Hall Road, LS11 6QB. It’s a warm space with chat and games etc plus a free snack lunch.
Opera North are holding another of their free concerts at the Penny Hill Shopping Centre in Hunslet, near the Church Street entrance. From 12:30pm on Thursday.
On Friday residents of Beeston & Holbeck ward can meet their Councillors at the monthly surgeries: 4pm at Beeston Library on Town Street; 5pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck; and 6pm at Cottingley Community Centre.
The Friends of Hunslet Moor invite you to a Halloween Trick or Treat Night from 5-8pm on Friday at the Hunslet Moor Community Hub, Moor Road, LS11 5FN. Includes refreshments and a prize for the best costume.
The Hunslet Club‘s free Halloween Party runs from 6pm with children’s entertainment, fancy dress comprtition, refreshments, family fun, DJ, dance competion, sppoky scare walk and live spooky animals. The club is on Hillage Road, LS10 1BP.
And finally, we will be distributing our November newspaper to 200 pick up points around LS10 and LS11 from Wednesday onwards so watch out for a copy.
