Beeston MSA gym fighters triumph at McHugh’s Leeds show

Matty Sylvester from Belle Isle was delighted to win a hybrid boxing title belt on Leeds promoter Scott McHugh’s recent show held at the Aria Suite in Woodhouse.

Sylvester, 22, wore 4oz gloves as he defeated Jon Doody by first round knockout.

“I’m currently training in Thailand,” explained Sylvester, “but was home for a short while so I wanted to provide some entertainment for my family and friends from the MSA gym in Beeston where I began training two years ago and which I’m proud to represent. I’m over the moon to have won a belt and look forward to becoming much better known in Yorkshire when I eventually return from Thailand.”

Fellow MSA fighters Kamil and Patryk Fornalski also won their bouts with Patryk beating tough north-east fighter Jamie Haley over five rounds to join Sylvester as a title belt holder.

“There were several hundred people in attendance, and all were impressed with the boxers from MSA who each put on an exciting display of skill and courage”, said McHugh, 31, who himself grew up in Belle Isle and who now organises up to four shows a year at the popular Woodhouse venue. “All can be proud of their commitment to boxing as shown by their skill and resilience performing for a large and noisily supportive crowd.”

McHugh himself will join other Yorkshire fighters on the BKB bare knuckle fight night to be held at Elland Road’s Planet Ice Arena on Saturday 18 October. “This will be my twentieth bare knuckle bout,” said McHugh, 31, “and I’m training hard to put on my best performance yet. Contact me for tickets and enjoy an evening of totally thrilling and exhilarating entertainment.”

Tickets for the October bare knuckle event or for McHugh’s next Leeds show on 5 December are available via his social media sites Facebook Scott McHugh and Instagram @scott_mchughbkb.
