An Invitation to ‘The Living Tomb’: In Life and Death We Are Intertwined

The Living Tomb: In Life And Death We Are Intertwined

PREVIEW: Saturday 31st May | 2-4pm
w/ The Frog & L.A.S.H

At ‘The Basement’ and in public

BasementArtsProject have always straddled a line between the private and personal when it comes to presenting the idea of life as an artwork. Where does the public persona end and the private life begin?

The family home is a place of rest…

…a place away from the hubbub of daily life and the world at large.

BasementArtsProject is an experimental arts venue that has been running out of a family home for the last 13 years.

Macclesfield based artist Simon Woolham will be spending some time in residence with the family behind BasementArtsProject ahead of his exhibition, and examining the living ephemera of life in a complex public/private arena.

‘The Living Tomb: In Life And Death We Are Intertwined’ imagines a place of rest as the veil collapses between the private, the public and the gone beyond…

So come with us as we continue to blur the boundaries between, life and art, public and private, the present and the hereafter.

For the opening Simon (The Human) will be performing with his band L.A.S.H and there will also be a public appearance by his friend/alter-ego The Frog.

We look forward to seeing you soon

BasementArtsProject is a concept, a venue and a way of life. We believe that art and culture should be built within communities and nurtured by those who will be most affected by its presence.

We are a phenomenological project in which lived experience is central to everything. We believe that acceptance and effective learning happens when people do not realise that it is happening.

Our programme deals with the removal of barriers within the community and is based around five pillars: Art as Entertainment, Education, Engagement & Employment and ultimately Empowerment.

We also provide artists at the beginning of their career with exhibitions, experiences, opportunities, mentoring, and assistance in achieving their visions.

Also, as the weather gets warmer, come and use our rather lovely pocket sculpture park that we have created on ‘The Corner’ of Dewsbury & Tunstall.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.”
Max Ehrmann: Desiderata (1927)
