Beeston’s Asha Neighbourhood Project held its open Annual General Meeting at the Rowland Road WMC on Monday 27 November 2023.
Katy Ashworth, Chair of the Management Committee, welcomed local women, partner organisations and Hunslet & Riverside Ward Councillors Mohammed Iqbal and Paul Wray (Labour), and Ed Carlisle (Green) plus the Lord Mayor of Leeds Cllr Al Garthwaite.
Over the last 37 years, the Asha Neighbourhood Project has been supporting women and their families to live more fulfilling lives and helping them to achieve their full potential.
This year, over a hundred women have gained qualifications in ESOL, IT and Wellbeing. The Lord Mayor Cllr Al Garthwaite awarded the certificates.
The students, mums and under 5s group and the older women’s group shared their stories and experiences of being part of Asha.
Before the food was served Sarah Stead, Director of Vera Media, surprised the AGM attendees with delightful entertainment singing Abba songs that got women to get up from their chairs and join in the fun. Even the Lord Mayor could not resist joining in with the dancing!
Everyone wore the colours pink or orange to represent 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
