On Tuesday (24 October 2023) the children of Kidz Klub Leeds held a special ‘Happy Tea’ event at Beeston Hill United Free Church to thank everyone who supports their activities throughout the year.
Ward Councillors Andrew Scopes, Annie Maloney and Paul Wray were among those who attended and added their thanks to all those who make it possible for children to enjoy the engaging activities that make Kidz Klub so positive for the community.
The long running Leeds charity, who were nominated in last month’s BBC Make a Difference awards, receive funding from a range of sources, including local councillors and the Inner South Community Committee.
Kidz Klub activities include residential trips and days out, such as last week’s trip to Bradford’s Big Swing Adventure Playground, with transport funded by Beeston & Holbeck councillors. This summer, 34 children from the area were funded go to Marrick Priory Outdoor Education and Residential Centre in North Yorkshire, with an award of £5,700 from Inner South Community Committee.
Laura Hodgkinson, Kidz Klub Leeds Co Charity Leader said:
“The children were very excited to welcome our wonderful local councillors, the Lord Mayor and other guests for an evening of treats, entertainment and of course as promised happiness! The Kidz Klub children are amazing and spend a huge amount of time dreaming up ways that they can be Community Changers and Nation Shakers where they live. It’s wonderful and inspiring to see the difference they are making.”
Chair of the Inner South Community Committee, Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, (Labour, Hunslet and Riverside), said:
“Kidz Klub Leeds are an inspirational charity and for over 20 years they have made a significant and lasting contribution to the welfare of children from inner city Leeds.
“I’m delighted that, through the Inner South Community Committee, local councillors are able to play our part in supporting their fantastic work in our communities.”
Councillor Andrew Scopes, (Labour, Beeston and Holbeck) said:
“My colleagues and I know that many local children and families are facing difficult times, and we are grateful for the support that Kidz Klub offer, which can be transformational for children.
“It was great to be a part of the event that the fantastic Kids Klub children held to thank those who make this happen. We very much look forward to working with them in the years ahead.”
