Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
This week we start at Middleton Park Circus where the Middleton Makers’ Market will be setting up their stalls to sell you all sorts of handmade crafts and food and clothing. Saturday 10am-2pm.
Saturday sees the charity takeover of BasementArtsProject, Beeston’s own art gallery, by James the ADHD Artist. 10 yearv old James will be selling his art work from 12-5pm at 28 Back Burton terrace, LS11 5JH.
It’s Model Railway weekend at Middleton Railway. A range of layouts will be on display in the museum on Moor Road as well as the full size trains running as usual. Saturday and Sunday, 10am-4pm.
Hunslet ARLFC take on Thatto Heath Crusaders on Saturday at The Oval, opposite Morrisons. Kick off at 2:30pm.
Leeds dads are holding free soft play session, with free tea and toast, on Sunday morning 10am-12pm at Little Angels in Beeston (behind the Tommy Wass pub). Open to dads and their pre-school children. Register at leedsdads.org/events
Bands in the Park continues in Cross Flatts Park on Sunday, 2:30-4:30pm, with the Salvation Army Brass Band playing. There will be craft activities for children and the café will be open selling homemade cakes.
Holbeck sees not one, but tow operas this week! The Promise is a new opera for families and tells the story of a young girl who lives in a hard and ugly city. Performed outdoors so dress for the weather, but meet at Slung Low’s Warehouse in Holbeck, Crosby Street, Holbeck, Leeds LS11 9RQ on Tuesday at 6pm. South Leeds sees not one outdoor performance on Tuesday, but two! Over in Middleton Park, Oddsocks theatre will be performing their take on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Don’t be put off by the mention of Shakespeare. This is the Bard performed with more than a little pantomime – definitely family-friendly. Dress for the weather, bring a chair or blanket to sit on, refreshments will be served from the visitor centre. Tuesday, 7pm.
And finally, what many consider to be the finest Challenge Cup Final of all time, when Hunslet RLFC faced Wigan at Wembley in 1965, will be shown on the big screen in the Phoenix Bar at South Leeds Stadium on Friday at 12 noon. The showing will follow on from the regular Friday Breakfast Club, which, whilst focussed on ex-players is open to anyone, but expect the conversation to turn to all things rugby league.
