Young people urged to have their say on activity funding

Young people in South Leeds are being encouraged to participate in the Youth Activity Fund Consultation Survey for 2022, organised by the Inner South Community Committee of the Council.

Traditionally, in previous years we have held a Community Youth Summit for children and young people in each area where learners and staff spent a day with us learning about local democracy, Leeds City Council and then alongside this, working with Councillors to help decide how Youth Activity Fund money should be spent and allocated for the year ahead. The Youth Activity Fund is a budget that is given to the Inner South Community Committee to develop a programme of activities for young people out of school hours and in the holidays.

What are Community Youth Summits?

The Community Committees across Leeds held their first Youth Summit Events in 2015 and since then thousands of children and young people have taken part and have helped influence how the committees have spent over £500,000 of Youth Activity Fund money. These summits are an opportunity for children and young people in each area to come together with their local councillors to let them know:

  • What they like about growing up in their area
  • What they feel could be improved to make their area an even better place to live and grow up in
  • What kind of activities and projects they think Leeds City Council should fund to enable them and their friends to have fun and learn new skills on evenings, weekends and during school holidays

Unfortunately, due to current circumstances, we are not able to deliver the events in the usual way, therefore we are again adopting a model that will still provide young people the opportunity to inform the committees budget spend – albeit in a different way. As such, we are encouraging all children and young people to influence how youth activity funding is allocated in their area by asking them to complete our very short and simple online survey at: surveys.leeds.gov.uk/s/OSCECI

The survey closes on Thursday 31 March 2022.

The online surveys will also be advertised on the Inner South Community Committee Facebook page.
