Normality is gradually coming back! The Friends of Middleton Park are starting their 2021 summer programme of events with their traditional Bluebell Walks in Middleton Woods. Last year these had to be cancelled because of Covid restrictions, but this year they are back on again.
Normally the Friends hold the walks in conjunction with the Middleton Railway from the railway station in the park. But the Railway is not starting operation till later in May, so this year enjoy a guided stroll through the splendour that is the carpet of Bluebells in Middleton woods, leaving Middleton Park Visitor Centre at 11am and 2pm on both Sunday 2 May and Bank Holiday Monday 3 May 2021. No booking is needed.
The bluebells have started to make an impact in the woods (see photo, taken on Sunday 25 April) and are getting better by the day, with many more yet to blossom.
The walks will take approximately 45 minutes, and are up and down hill and could be on unsurfaced paths. People joining the walk are asked to scan the Visitor Centre QR code for test and trace, and that while on the walk everyone keeps to the covid rules about social distancing.
The Friends will be holding other guided walks in the park throughout the summer, and before very long, band concerts, Oddsocks Theatre, People’s Picnic and the Great Middleton Show will be making a welcome return the
park.
