People wanting to make Leeds the best city in the UK to live in are encouraged to join the Kindness Revolution at its launch event on Saturday 21 September in Holbeck.
As well as music from Tenzin and Captain of the Lost Waves, the launch evening will include a poem on Kindness by writer Paul Heaney, the symbolic planting of a tree of kindness, and a short talk about the Leeds Kindness Revolution by Project Leader Gloria Kimberley.
Leeds Festival of Kindness, Compassion and Wellbeing 2020 is a year of events leading up the main week of the festival that will take place on 5-13 September 2020. The intention is to make the festival an annual event. A spokesperson said:
“Leeds can pave the way and set an example for others to follow, as a city where no one is left behind. We want to contribute to making Leeds a city of compassion and wellbeing. When people feel they belong and feel safe and secure, they can then be their best, most creative and generous selves. Kindness, compassion and wellbeing create a supportive environment for a good life that everyone can and should be part of.
“The festival will enable schools, faith groups, communities and businesses to self-organise activities in their own spaces as well as attending talks, films, food and arts events at a central venue in the city centre. Leeds Kindness Revolution aims to give people an experience of what a city of kindness could be like and a glimpse into how things could be different for everyone, including those who are most often excluded. We want to create a city that is inclusive – in the parks and public spaces, on the buses, on the trains, on the roads, in the city centre and the shopping centres, in schools, in businesses, communities and neighbourhoods. Contact us if you like to be involved. We need your help to make Leeds the best city in the UK to live in.”
The event starts at 7pm on Saturday 21 September at the Jamyang Buddhist Centre Leeds, Ingram Road, Holbeck, LS11 9RQ.
