What’s On Roundup: 9-15 November 2019

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

Remembrance weekend starts with a 5km sponsored Poppy Run in Middleton Park. The event, raising funds for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, starts at 11am. Entrance is £15 for adults, £7.50 for children (7-17), children under 7 (and dogs) are free.

The Poppy Run means that there is no Middleton Woods parkrun on Saturday morning, but Cross Flatts parkrun isn’t far away.

If you play outdoor sports, please be aware that all Council sports pitches are closed this weekend because of the heavy rain this week.

St Andrew’s Methodist Church on old Lane in Beeston is holding its Christmas Fair on Saturday morning 10am-12pm.

Leeds Art Market runs on Saturday and Sunday at The Tetley, Hunslet’s own art gallery. The event showcases local independent artists, makers and designers and runs 11am-4pm each day.

The bonfire season concludes on Saturday evening at The Hunslet Club. The club will be open from 6pm with the firework display at 7:30pm, the event is free.

On Sunday the Church of the Nazarene on Hunslet Hall Road launches its monthly free community meal at 1pm.

Leeds Film Festival continues until 21 November at various venues in the city centre and beyond, including Cineworld at White Rose Centre. Standing in the Rain, a short documentary about Slung Low’s partnership with The Holbeck, will be shown as part of the Yorkshire Short Film Competition at Hyde Park Picture House on 17 & 18 November.

Terrified of computers? Learn My Way is a free online course for beginners that helps you develop your digital skills. There are regular drop-in sessions at Leeds Libraries to help you get started or cope with any barriers along the way. The Fortnightly session at Hunslet Community Hub is on Tuesday 12:30-1:30pm.

On Wednesday Cottingley Hall TRAC meets at 6:30pm at Cottingley Community Centre. The meeting is open to all residents and is attended by Councillors, the Police and other agencies.

Thursday sees another litterpick and clean up organised by Hunslet Tenants & Residents Association. If you can help, meet at 10am on Church Street

And finally, Leeds United entertain Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon, kick off 3pm. If you live near the ground you can expect traffic congestion before and after the match.
