A Valentine’s Day thank you to volunteers

Volunteers at Trinity Network were the guests of honour at the regular Tuesday lunch club today (14 February 2017) as they were given a Valentine’s Day thank you.

Lynda Williamson, CEO of Trinity Network, said:

“Our volunteers are fantastic. We only have a small staff team so having such a caring and dependable group of volunteers is invaluable.”

Tony Lee, Chair of Trinity Network added: “We simply couldn’t provide the activities we do without them.”

Duties range widely from making tea and coffee, befriending, pushing wheelchairs on trips, running craft classes and serving meals to calling the bingo. Although they put in a lot of work, the volunteers clearly enjoy themselves.

“I get pleasure out of it, the members are such good company.” Said Glenys Asquith who is carrying on a family tradition – her mother cooked lunchtime meals for 21 years.

Anne Parker enjoys befriending and talking to members “They are all really nice to talk to. I love to listen to their stories, they’ve all led such interesting lives.”

“They’re extraordinarily funny, worse than teenagers sometimes” agrees Jannine Holmes. “I love it and I hope that when I’m that position there will be someone to help me.”

Amongst other things, Jannine accompanies members to doctor’s and hospital appointments and helps people get online with their tablets and smartphones.

Barbara Beck started the craft group – Crafternoon Tea – which combines a proper afternoon tea with the best china. Members make all sorts of things from cards, sewing to Easter baskets.

Trinity Network is clearly an important lifeline for its members. A place to come and meet or make friends, get a hot meal in good company and take part in the many games and activities. It runs two centres at Nesfield Road in Belle Isle and at Dewsbury Road in Beeston.

Trinity Network is currently looking for new volunteers. If you would like to find out more please ring (0113) 270 3935; or email: info@trinitynetwork.org.uk
