The best Fish & Chip shop in South Leeds

Oh my Cod! Tomorrow, Fryday 27 May 2022, is National Fish & Chip Day and we want to know which is the best plaice in South Leeds (LS10 and LS11) to get Britain’s favourite takeaway meal.

Did you know …

The tradition of frying fish in batter seems to have come to Britain with Jewish immigrants and been put together with fried potatoes in the mid nineteenth century. By the 1930s there were over 35,000 fish and shops in the UK and although that has declined there are still over 10,000. The British Government safeguarded the supply of fish and chips during the First World War and the Second World War and it was one of the few foods in the UK not subject to rationing during the wars.

Now get your skates on, it’s time to vote. Can 2021 winners KP Fish Bar in Middleton hold onto their crown or will we see a new winner this year?

We don’t want any scraps breaking out, but once you’ve voted do tell us why you think your local is the best chippy in the comments below (don’t forget to say who you voted for).

Voting closes on Sunday (29 May 2022) at midnight. We’ll bring you the result, for batter or worse, on Monday.

  1. Belle Isle fisheries. Great staff. Best fish I have ever had at any chippy.
    Curry sauce amazing.
    Very large portions

  2. Park Fisheries, friendly caring people and excellent fish and chips. Just the best

  3. One quote in a fish shop window from WW2 stated :-
” Because of Hitler your fish is littler”
The government knew how to help morale at that time by NOT rationing fish.

  5. I went to this chip shop and there was a scrap within the shop. Three fish got battered, and two potions got black eyes 🙂 at least mine survived, and they were bloody tasty 😉
