Supporting the Beeston boy with the bowel transplant in Birmingham

The family of four-year-old Patrick Askham are fundraising to help meet the cost of supporting him in Birmingham Children’s Hospital following a bowel transplant operation.

Patrick was born with an Omphalocelepart and part his intestine outside his body and has had repeated surgery as well as a stoma.

In April this year Patrick went live on the transplant list and on the 13 December (8 days after his 4th birthday) he had his transplant. Now Patrick will spend up to three months at Birmingham hospital.

It’s a long way from home in Beeston but Mum Michele is staying with Patrick and told South Leeds Life:

“Today (Friday 21 December 2018) our other two young children are due to join us to try celebrate Christmas but as you can imagine it’s difficult to become ‘Santa’ so far away from home.”

Travelling to and from Birmingham and paying for accommodation adds a massive pressure to the family budget, so they have started a Go Fund Me page and are asking family, friends and the wider community to help them.

The good news is that the transplant operation went well, let’s see if we can’t help make Christmas and the months ahead equally positive for the Askhams.
